Cucumber belongs to the family of “Cucurbitaceae”. Scientifically, they are known as “Cucumis sativus”. It is a widely cultivated plant and cylindrical in shape. Cucumber fruit may be 24 inch (60 centimeters) long and 3.9 inch (10 centimeters) in diameter. Usually, cucumbers are more than 90% water.cucumber


There are three varieties of cucumber : slicing, pickling and burpless.

Slicing cucumber : Cucumbers, which are grown for eating are the slicing cucumbers. They are eaten, when they are unripe in green form. The ripe yellow form may become bitter and sour.

Pickling cucumber : Cucumbers which are used in pickles are called pickling cucumbers. They grow to about 3 inche (7 centimeters) to 4 inch (10 centimeter) long and 1 inch (2.5 centimeter)wide. These cucumbers are quiet shorter, thicker and have bumpy skin as compared to the slicing cucumbers. They have tiny white or black-dotted spines. They are never waxed.

Burpless cucumbers : These cucumbers are very tasty and are helpful in easy digestion. They are sweeter and have thin skin compare to other varieties of cucumber. They are seedless and have a very delicate skin. They can grow as long as 2 feet. They have cleaning properties, that removes accumulated waste and toxins from the body.
