Dal Maharani Recipe – Ingredients, Method of Cooking

Dal Maharani is the queen of all the dals. Really the name has the real significance.
When you will taste this awesome dal, you will definitely say, yes it is the queen of dals.
It is made using the black gram (Urad) and Red kidney beans (Rajma).
It is enriched with the cream and is accompanied with naan or paratha.

Ingredients for making Dal Maharani

  • 1/2 cup whole Black Gram (Sabut Urad Dal)
  • 2 tablespoon Red Kidney Beans (Rajma)
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 1/2 inch Ginger chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 2 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin (Jeera) seeds
  • 2 medium sized chopped Onions
  • 10 cloves Garlic chopped
  • 1 medium sized Tomato chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Cream
  • Salt as per taste

Method for making Dal Maharani

  • Soak whole black gram and red kidney beans overnight.
  • Next day, drain excess water and pressure cook the soaked dal and rajma in nearly five cups of water.
  • Add salt and ginger to the dal.
  • Let it cook for 6-8 whistles.
  • Now, take a pan. Heat ghee and butter.
  • Add the cumin seeds and when its colour changes add the onions and saute well.
  • Add garlic and saute till the color of the onion changes to golden brown.
  • Now add the tomatoes and saute till the oil separates from the masala.
  • Add the boiled dal and rajma. Mix well.
  • Add one cup of warm water and saute till it comes to boil.
  • Add garam masala powder and let it cook on a low flame for 10- 15 minutes.
  • Add cream and again saute for sometime.
  • Saute well and put off the gas.
  • Dal Maharani is ready to serve.

How to serve

  • Serve Dal Maharani with naan or paratha.
