Masala Idly Recipe – Ingredients, Method of Making

Masala Idly is very awesome and tasty. It gives the idly a different flavor. It can be made using the left over idlis. The masalas which are coated to the idly, gives a unique flavor. I tried this recipe last sunday and everybody loved it. And now, my mother in law has booked the menu for all the sunday’s that ‘this is the must recipe’.

Ingredients for making Masala Idly

  • 6 Idli
  • 2 teaspoon Oil
  • 2 chopped Onions
  • 1 chopped Tomato
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds (Rai)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • Few Curry Leaves
  • A pinch of Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam masala
  • Salt as per taste
  • Fresh coriander Leaves (Kothamir)

Method for making Masala Idly

  • Cut the idlis into cubes and keep aside.
  • Take a pan. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
  • When they start crackling, add cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  • Then add the onion and saute till it turn to translucent.
  • Add tomato and cook till soft.
  • Now add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala. Mix well.
  • Add the cubed idly and mix well, so that the spices may coat evenly.
  • If you feel that it is little dry, sprinkle little water.
  • Add salt and saute well.
  • Garnish with the coriander leaves and Masala idly is ready to serve.
