How to Make Ugadi Pachadi – AP Ugadi Special Recipe

The Ugadi Pachadi is specially prepared in Andhra Pradesh on Ugadi (Telugu new year day). In Maharashtra, it is celebrated as “Gudi padwa”. And even in Karnataka it is celebrated as “Ugadi”. Pachadi is made using raw mango and the neem flowers. It is said that, by consuming this pachadi, the one may not get sick in the coming year. It is very tasty but of course tastes little sour. This pachadi is made in the pot, which is new (freshly purchased), as it gives the real taste which may not get if made in old pot or any other container. It tastes sweet, sour, pungent and bitter. These many different taste in one pachadi itself makes one to taste a little. It takes hardly 20-30 minutes for cooking.

Ingredients for making pachadi

  • 1 cup finely chopped Raw Mango with skin
  • 1 tablespoon Neem tree flowers ( Margosa flowers )
  • I cup grated Jaggery
  • 3-4 tablespoon Tamarind paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped Coconut pieces
  • Salt as per taste

Method for making ugadi pachadi

Mix all the ingredients in the pot.

Note: There are several types of Ugadi Pachadis and this one we are sharing is one of the simplest yet the most common made Ugadi Pachadi in most of the homes today on the eve of Ugadi.
