Ven Pongal Recipe – Ingredients, Method of Cooking

Ven Pongal is one of the type of pongal. It is very simple and easy breakfast prepared on ‘Pongal’. This pongal, i made is a tamil style pongal.

Venn Pongal

Ingredients for making Ven Pongal / Venn Pongal

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/4 cup Split Yellow Moong Dal
  • 3 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin seed Powder (Jeera)
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Paste (Adhrakh)
  • 1 tablespoon Dry Ginger Powder
  • Black Pepper Powder as per taste
  • Salt as per taste
  • 6 cups Water

For Garnishing

  • 6-7 Cashewnuts (Kaju)

Method for making Ven Pongal / Venn Pongal

  • Take a pan. Fry the cashewnuts in a little ghee and keep aside.
  • Take a bowl. Add both the rice and dal. Wash thoroughly.
  • Now in a pressure cooker, heat 1 tablespoon ghee and add rice and dal to it.
  • Saute for some time and then add asafoetida, cumin seed powder and ginger paste.
  • Also add dry ginger powder, black pepper powder, salt and water.
  • Pressure cook till it is well done.
  • Garnish with cashewnuts.
  • Ven Pongal / Venn Pongal is ready to serve.

How to serve

Ven Pongal is served with sambhar or Coconut chutney.
