How to make Black Forest Cake Recipe – Ingredients, Method

Black Forest cake is originated in Germany. It is named as “Schwarzwalder kirschtorte” . Black Forest Cake consists of layers of chocolate cake with whipped cream and cherries between each layer. The cake is decorated with additional whipped cream, cherries and the grated chocolate. It is loved by everyone and really not too hard to make.

Ingredients for making Black Forest Cake

  • 1 tin (400grams) Milkmaid Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 100 grams Amul Butter
  • 175 grams (1 3/4 cup) All purpose flour (Maida)
  • 3-4 heaped tablespoon (25 grams) Cocoa Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Soda Bicarbonate
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence
  • 1-1/3 cup (200ml) Aerated Soda
  • 1 small tin Tinned Cherries
  • 200 grams Cream
  • 2 teaspoon Icing Sugar/Powdered Sugar

Method for making Black Forest Cake

  • Grease an 8 inch diameter baking tin and dust it with a flour.
  • Pre heat the oven at 180 degree centigrade.
  • Sieve together maida, cocoa powder, baking powder and soda bicarbonate.
  • Sieve this 2-3 times for better aeration.
  • Take another bowl, add butter (do not melt) and milkmaid. Beat well.
  • Add the vanilla essence.
  • Now add the maida mixture and the aerated soda, alternatively to the batter (butter and milkmaid mixture), till all the maida and soda are used.
  • Pour this batter into the baking tin and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes.
  • You can also use the tooth picK for knowing whether it is well baked or not.
  • Insert the tooth pick in the center of the cake, if it comes out clean the cake is well baked.
  • Remove from oven and cool for a while.
  • Turn a knife around the sides of the cake, if necessary.
  • Turnout over a wire rack/plate lined with cloth (to absorb moisture).
  • Let it cool slightly before cutting horizontally into two.
  • Drain and destone the cherries. Soak both cake halves with the cherries syrup.
  • Whip cream and sugar till light and fluffy.
  • Sandwich the two layers of cake with whipped cream and chopped cherries.
  • Top with whipped cream and cherries.
  • Sprinkle generously with grated chocolate.
  • Chill and Black Forest Cake is ready to serve.
