Panchkuti Dal – Ingredients, Method of cooking

Panchkuti Dal is the best combination of 5 (five) dals. It is well prepared with the spices and is very good for the diabetic people. It is very delicious and healthy. We know that the dal is very nutritious and good for health. And so the babies are given the dal water (the liquid which comes after the boiling of dal). But in this recipe, we have used five different dals, which makes the dish even more healthier and nutritious. This dish is low in sodium and contains protein, calcium and folic acid.

Ingredients for making Panchkuti Dal

  • 1 tablespoon split black lentils (chilkewali Urad dal)
  • 1 tablespoon split Green gram (green Moong dal)
  • 1 tablespoon Toovar dal (Arhar dal)
  • 1 tablespoon split Bengal gram (Chana dal)
  • 1 tablespoon split Red lentils (Masoor dal)
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds (Rai/sarson)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumuin seeds (Jeera)
  • 1/2 inch Cinnamon (Dalchini)
  • 2 cloves (Lavang/Laung)
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 4 dry Red Chillies
  • 3 finely chopped Green chillies
  • 2 teaspoon finely chopped Ginger (Adhrakh)
  • 2 teaspoon finely chopped Garlic (Lasan/Lahusan)
  • 2 chopped Tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoon chopped Coriander (Kothmir)
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • Salt as per taste

Method for making Panchkuti Dal

  • Wash all the dals and soak for nearly 1 hour.
  • Drain the water and add 3 1/2 cup of water to the dal and pressure cook till soft.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Fry mustard seeds, when they crackle add the cumin seeds, cinnamon and cloves.
  • Now add the curry leaves, red chillies, ginger and garlic and fry for a minute.
  • Add the tomatoes, garam masala, boiled dals, lemon juice, coriander and salt.
  • Bring it to boil and let it boil for 8-10 minutes.
  • Panchkuti dal is ready to serve.
