Appalu Recipe – Ingredients, Method of making

Appalu is my favourite snack. These are made during the Sankranti festival and as it is my favorite, i wait for the occasions to come. These can also be stored for some days and so whenever my husband go for an event to other country, i make appalu for him and he enjoy eating there. These are really lovely and awesome.

Ingredients for making Appalu

  • 3 cups Rice flour
  • 1/2 cup Chana dal (Chick peas)
  • 2 teaspoon Green chilli paste
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Ginger garlic paste
  • 2 teaspoon Sesame seeds (Til/Tal)
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Bicarbonate Soda
  • Oil for deep frying

Method of making Appalu

  • Soak chana dal for 2-3 hours.
  • Take a bowl, add rice flour, chana dal,green chilli paste, ginger garlic paste, sesame seeds, salt and bicarbonate soda.
  • Mix thoroughly and by using little water make a dough.
  • Dough should not be too smooth, it should be little tight.
  • Now heat oil in a pan and roll this dough to a small cirle shape (should be thin).
  • Drop these into the oil and fry till golden brown.
  • Appalu are ready to serve.
  • They can also be stored for days.
